Dress your baby appropriately for bed to prevent choking hazards, overheating and other dangers that can lead to suffocation or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). If your home is cooler or warmer, dress the baby to account for the difference. Adjust her sleepwear as necessary to keep her warm without causing her to be too warm.
- Wrap your baby tightly in a swaddle or receiving blanket in a manner that won’t allow his hands to come out or the blanket to come up over his face.
- Use a sleep-bag or sleep sack as an alternative, which is a cross between a sleeping bag and garment. The neck and arms appear and work like normal clothing, but the bottom allows the baby to move her feet at will.
- Outfit your baby in a one-piece sleeper that covers the baby from his feet up to his neck. Cotton material absorbs moisture and keeps the baby warm.
